Athletics and tabloids

This week during athletics practice i learnt a lot of techniques for athletics like scissor kick for high jump and keep you legs moving opposite to your arms while you are sprinting etc.

During athletics, though I didn't get in for the other events I made it into the inter schools for high jump.

This week during tabloids our group had to do a dress up challenge, a challenge when you throw balls, tug of war, some peg game and game when you had to get the most amount of water into a bucket first. After that we weighed our saltie cards but rimu won we'll get you next time rimu...

Both this week and last week I learnt how to properly write a detailed recount and plan about events that have happened in he past. I learnt that using plans and having key words help  to write a lot and I will hopefully use it in the future. I also learnt that i really enjoy writing and apparently i am good at it.

Mike Dawson's visit

Today Mike Dawson, a canoeist from the Rio Olympic games 2016 to tell our syndicate about his tough journey through his canoeing courier. He told us about all of the races he both won and lost, where he stayed during the Olympics, what he had to wear whilst racing and other stuff. I learnt that if you were willing to compete in the Olympics, you'd have to race with over one hundred people and then place 16th place or under. We learnt in Brazil where the Olympics was placed there were sadly many people without homes and didn't have very much food, fortunatly Mike and one of his were empathetic and gave out bags of food all around town. He also told us his other favourite sports which were motorbiking and skiing, and he told us no matter what back round you have if you stick your mind to what you want to be you can be it.

Mindlab

This week I learnt how to code, wire and construct to make what was supposed to be  something like a remote control car using a micro bit. I felt challenged when I learnt to make them because we had to construct the the car with popsicle sticks, rubber bands and hot glue guns so that all the wires, tires and the micro bit could fit on the car. But in the end my team and I somehow ended up having a succesful car that actually functioned.

New Shared Book

This term our class started a new shared chapter book called Little House on the Prairie. The book was about a family of eight including the pets.Pa(the dad in the story) had sold their house and they were currently living in a wagon being pulled around the country by two horses named pet and patty. After days and weeks of being pulled around they stopped in an old cabin to stay the  night. The next day they packed up their things and kept going, they soon stopped in front of a creek and the daughters(Mary and Laura)cried "but what about Jack(the small guard dog under the wagon)"  "he can swim" ma said assuringly. But as Pet and Patty started to swim over the creek the water rose higher and higher and pa had jumped into the river to help pet and patty swim across.Once they had gotten through the creek Laura said "wheres Jack" ma looked under the wagon and Jack wasn't to be seen.....

Profile

Hi, my name is Kayla. I go to Te Hapara School. I live in Gisborne, New Zealand (Aotearoa). I am 11 yrs old.  My Mum is from London and my Dad is from Gisborne.

I am kind of good at maths. I’m pretty good at drawing, art, craft and things like that.  I’m pretty good at writing and I’m told that I’m an artist at home and school.  I like to watch YouTube and horror, comedy or action movies.  One of my favourite things to do is eat, sleep and the things I listed above. Even though I don’t think my drawings are very good I still love to draw and things like that.  My challenge that comes at me nearly everyday is times tables or just maths in general.  My goal this year is to improve my drawing and to get better at math.

I am looking forward to EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) week at the end of the year.  The people who inspire me is my dad, Youtubers, my favourite singers e.g Die Antwoord, System of a down, Slipknot and especially other famous artists.

Nau mai, haere mai ki tēnei taonga

Welcome to my blog for learning.
I look forward to sharing my learning with my school,
my whānau and friends everywhere.
